Colo. fire marshal dies in the line of duty

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — The West Douglas County Fire Protection District announced Sunday that Fire Marshal Stephen Smith died in the line of duty.

In its Facebook post, the department did not disclose the circumstances of Smith’s death but praised his character.

“Steve served with honor, courage and commitment that was unmatched. He was a leader, an educator and a dear friend of the community and a critical part of the West Douglas Family,” the department stated.
