MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — Lives could have been at risk had a group of LaPorte County firefighters been called to a major crash or some other event calling for rescue equipment taken during a recently discovered burglary.
On Tuesday, it was discovered that the Coolspring Township fire station at 0992 N. Shebel Road had been broken into by an exterior door, said LaPorte County Police.
Among the items taken off a fire truck were an automatic external defibrillator used to restore the heart beat in cardiac arrest patients and a self-contained breathing apparatus worn by firefighters to enter burning structures.
