Harris Corporation Develops New Capabilities for Unity XG-100P Portable Radio

MELBOURNE, FL/BOSTON, MA — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, today announced that it has added P25 (Project 25) trunking capabilities to its Unity® XG-100P Multiband Portable Radio. Trunking increases the efficiency of a radio system by assigning voice and data communications to unused radio channels, allowing for more voice and data traffic on the same number of channels.

Current Unity portable users can take advantage of the Unity XG-100P trunking capabilities through a software upgrade. The Unity XG-100 family of radios, including the XG-100 portable radio and the XG-100 mobile radio, is fully P25-compliant and enables federal, state and local public safety users to achieve radio-level interoperable communications for day-to-day tasks or the coordination of large-scale emergency response.

“The combination of the Unity’s multiband connectivity, trunking capabilities and its suite of advanced communications features makes the Unity XG-100 portable radio a powerful tool for public safety users,” said George Helm, vice president and general manager — LMR Operations, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. “The Unity XG-100 allows first responders to use a single radio to communicate across VHF, UHF, 700 and 800 MHz radio frequencies, on trunking or conventional systems, giving them unprecedented connectivity.”

The Unity XG-100 product family supports APCO P25 Trunking, P25 Conventional and analog FM modes of operation, while providing the ability to scan continuously across all bands, voice modes and encryption types. The Unity XG-100P operates across other manufacturers’ P25 systems regardless of frequency band or mode of operation: P25 Conventional or P25 Trunking. Designed to deliver interoperable communications for Federal, state or local public safety agencies, the Unity XG-100P covers the VHF band, UHF band, and 700/800 MHz bands in a single radio.
