EMMITSBURG, Md. — The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Liza Aunkst to the Board of Directors’ Advisory Committee.

Liza is the daughter of Firefighter Michael Aunkst, of the Benedict Volunteer Fire Department (NE), who died in the line of duty in 2005. Liza hopes to honor her father’s legacy and memory by giving back to the community that helped build her into the person she is today. The NFFF was a beacon of light for Liza, and she aspires to be that beacon of light and provide support to other Fire Hero Family members on their healing journey. Liza participated and completed the Foundation’s Family Programs Peer Support Training and she also started helping with the Virtual Camp HAL sessions, a camp that is offered to children, ages 4 - 7, of fallen firefighters.

“We are very pleased to have Liza join the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s Advisory Committee. Her personal experiences with the NFFF will enhance our mission and help the Foundation connect with more people and organizations in the fire service and beyond,” said NFFF Board Chairman Troy Markel.
