WOODLAND, Calif. — Woodland’s victims of cardiac arrests, severe allergic reactions and near-drownings have a better shot at survival.
After about six hours of training and $2,000, the Woodland Fire Department is the first in Yolo County to arm its firefighters with King Systems-brand airway devices, an oxygen tube EMTs can run directly into the lungs.
“If the patient is not breathing, we insert it into their mouths and it blocks the esophogans and forces air down the trachea...it’s the best method for inhalation that an EMT can provide,” Firefighter Tara Daniels said.
