FREMONT, Calif. — Watching Fremont, Calif., firefighters and extrication trainer Brock Archer cut apart a brand new Tesla Model S is enough to bring car enthusiasts to tears. But for firefighters, this 37-minute video provides detailed instruction on safely getting occupants out of the electric vehicle.
“This … video does not fully prepare rescuers to operate at EV incidents, but it does nicely compliment instruction received from a qualified EV instructor,” Archer wrote in a recent blog. Archer is a former assistant fire chief with Hopeland (Calif.) Fire District and a California state fire instructor.
In addition to looking at the Model S, the video offers insights into the basics of how electric vehicles work, the myths about them and the dangers they present to firefighters.
