MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Two volunteer firefighters were injured when a fire truck crashed and overturned while en route to a house fire Friday afternoon.
The Daily News Journal reported the two firefighters were in the rig when it wrecked, flipping two and a half times and landing on its roof in the middle of the road.
Both firefighters sustained non-life threatening injuries and are in stable condition, according to the report.
A 22-year-old firefighter was taken via LifeFlight to a hospital and the passenger, a 25-year-old firefighter, was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
“The 22-year-old was trapped by the hand for 45 minutes as crews worked to free him,” Randy White, director of Education and Planning for the Rutherford County EMS, said.
The firefighter was alert and talkative during the rescue, but that due to the nature of his injuries was being taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to the report.
“People don’t realize that for emergency responders getting out there is half of the battle,” White said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
