3 Texas firefighters hurt after semi hits fire truck

The firefighters, who were thrown from the rig, suffered non-life threatening injuries; the trucker died at the scene

IRVING, Texas — Police say three Dallas-area firefighters have been hurt and a trucker killed when his 18-wheeler hit a stopped ladder truck at a DWI wreck scene.

Irving police Officer Steve Burres says the fire truck rolled and came to rest on its side in the crash early Sunday. The tractor-trailer rig ended up on its side and caught fire during the Highway 183 wreck.

The trucker died at the scene. His name wasn’t immediately released.

Burres says three firefighters, who were thrown from the fire truck, were transported to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. One has a concussion.

Burres says a man suspected of drunken driving was arrested in the original single-vehicle accident. Another driver who hit a stopped patrol car at the site also faces a DWI count.
