NEW YORK — Two firetrucks thundering to a gas leak in Brooklyn yesterday collided at an intersection — flipping one on its side and injuring 13 firefighters, including two who became pinned and suffered serious leg injuries, authorities said.

Lt. Kevin Washington and driver Robert Puppa, of Ladder Co. 107 in East New York, were taken to Brookdale Hospital with deep lacerations and broken bones, officials said.

Their truck was heading to Warwick Street, where the gas leak was reported, when a truck from Engine Co. 236 slammed into it at the intersection of Ashford Street and Hegeman Avenue at 9:38 a.m., officials said.

“It went up in the air. I could see the wheels. It spun, and then it slammed down on its side, and then it slid and stopped, wrapped in the tree,” said Everett Groves, 63, superintendent of a nearby building.

“To think you could turn that thing over.”
