NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Kent Monohan’s job is to train future firefighters. It’s a job he takes very seriously.
That is why his fire rescue class at the Charles Allen Prosser School of Technology takes no shortcuts, giving each of his 26 students state-of-the-art equipment, from boots to helmet. That also includes fire trucks. On Tuesday morning, Monohan and his students gladly accepted a donation from the Clarksville Fire Department of a 1982 pumper engine that is still operational. Clarksville replaced the old engine recently.
“It’s in awesome shape,” Monohan said. It’s the program’s third truck, but “by far” the best, according to Monohan. The 1985 engine the class used last year sat out in the weather all year and is not in the best of shape.
