WEIRTON, W.Va. — Part of a firehouse collapsed after a fire truck backed into a wall Sunday.
WTOV9 reported that three firefighters with the Weirton (W.Va.) Fire Department were on scene when the fire truck backed into the middle wall of the building, bringing down parts of the roof.
“Just had to come up and see what the damage was,” Fire Chief Jerry Shumate said. “The first thing I asked was anyone hurt. Nobody hurt, and then we go from there.”
One fire truck suffered body damage in the collapse, while two other main trucks were undamaged.
Chief Shumate said the incident would not affect their operations as a fire department.
“Fire protection is not suffering, we’re just going to be tied up here securing the building for the evening,” he said.
Officials on scene inspected the remainder of the building and deemed it safe.
