GOSHEN, Ohio — A fire truck crashed Wednesday night while returning to a firehouse from a motor vehicle accident.
Multiple sources report that the truck’s rear tire got off the road in a deep ditch and as the driver attempted to correct the front end struck a drainage culvert. The truck then shot across the road, flipped, rolled and ended up on its side.
Three firefighters on board all exited the vehicle through the windshield and called for assistance, according to the report.
They were transported to a hospital as precaution, and all three were released with bumps and bruises. The crew was wearing their seatbelts, according to the report. Everything loose in the cab was ejected through the windshield.
The fire truck was a total loss, but Goshen Township Fire Chief Steve Pegram said they have full insurance coverage on the vehicle. They will be using a backup engine until the truck is repaired or replaced, according to the report.
