Firefighter involved in DUI fire truck crash fired

LEE COUNTY, Miss. — A firefighter who was arrested after driving a fire truck under the influence last week has been let go from his fire department.

WCBI.com reported firefighter Phillip Gasaway, 34, with the Unity Fellowship (Miss.) Volunteer Fire Department, was driving the rig on the way to a grass fire when he lost control.

Gasaway, who had been with the department for about a year, was charged with a first offense DUI.

Fire Captain Jimmy Stevens released a statement about the crash.

“Unity Fellowship Volunteer Fire Department wants to apologize for this unfortunate incident. We would like to ensure our community the firefighter is no longer with us and we will continue to strive to serve our people to the best of our abilities.”
