LEE COUNTY, Ky. — A firefighter was flown to a hospital after the pumper he was driving crashed Monday.
Lex18 reported that firefighter Kyle Cook, 22, was injured after a crash happened on a highway around 12:30 p.m.
“It was just so loud that you probably could’ve heard it for half a mile,” said Ruby McIntosh, who lives right beside the scene. “I knew, when I heard the racket, that he’d wrecked.”
Parts of the truck were scattered all over the road and the roof of the cab was torn off, where Cook, the driver, was removed, according to the report.
“I took off running up there to him and I could hear him crying before I got to him and I thought, ‘Oh Lord, how bad is it?’” McIntosh said.
McIntosh used the radio inside the fire struck to call for help as she tried to keep firefighter Cook calm, according to the report.
“He wasn’t worried about himself. He was worried more about the truck,” McIntosh said.
Crews described Cook’s injures as non-life threatening, but he was flown to a hospital just to be on the safe side, according to the report. Firefighter Cook was listed in fair condition Monday evening and police are working to determine what caused the crash.
