QUITMAN, La. — A volunteer firefighter died after crashing a fire truck into a ditch Monday night.
KSLA reported that Robert B. Thomas, 52, was departing the scene of a residential structure fire when the rig entered a curve and drifted off the roadway into a ditch. Firefighter Thomas was the only one on board the rig and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The fire truck overturned and pinned firefighter Thomas under the vehicle. Thomas, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire truck was registered to Bienville Fire District 7. The crash remains under investigation.
