Smeal Fire Apparatus was showing off its new 105-foot rear-mounted aerial unit at FDIC. The rig has a 480-gallon tank and a Waterous pump that can push 2,000 gallons per minute.
The truck is powered by a 500-horsepower Cummins engine and an Allison 4000 EVS transmission. The rig stretches 42 feet long and is just under 12 feet tall.
It is designed to carry a 10-foot folding attic ladder, a 14-foot Fresno ladder, two 16-foot roof ladders, a 24-foot, two-section ladder and a 35-foot, three-section ladder.
The hose bed will accommodate 1,000 feet of 5-inch. It has eight cross-lay discharges ranging from 1 ¾ inch to 4 inch.
The rig comes equipped with Smeal’s AL-11 aerial information system, which includes a 7-inch screen at the turntable control console. It displays data for ladder extension, rotation, elevation, load and hydraulic-oil pressure. The system also provides engine information such as RPMs, coolant temperature, oil pressure, battery voltage, fuel level and engine-warning indicators.
