GREECE, N.Y. — A middle school student was killed after being struck by a fire vehicle Sunday.
Dominic Cook, 13, was struck by a Lake Shore Fire Department vehicle while entering the road, reported the Democrat & Chronicle. Cook was transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Hilton Central school officials announced Cook’s death this week, stating counselors would be made available to students in need of support.
“Dominic was a wonderful student with a heart of gold,” Principal Tracie Czebatol said. “He always had a smile on and ‘good morning’ for everyone, and brought a smile to everyone’s face wherever he went.”
A GoFundMe to help pay for funeral and memorial expenses was set up by a family friend. Over $6,000 has been raised so far.
An investigation regarding the incident is underway.
