CISCO, Texas — Thanks to generous donations from residents, businesses and foundations, the Cisco Fire Department was able to unveil its new rural firefighting truck — Attack 4.

The 2012 Chevrolet heavy duty pickup is capable of carrying up to 300 gallons of water and other firefighting equipment to wildland fires.

The truck cost $45,935. Nearly $40,000 of that was covered by donations.

The city of Cisco and Eastland County Precinct 4 contributed the difference.

Purchase of the truck was made possible in part by a grant from the Community Foundation of Abilene.

In the past year the foundation has distributed more than $130,000 to 17 volunteer fire departments throughout the Big Country, said Katie Alford, CEO of the foundation.

Over the next five years, Alford said, the foundation hopes to raise $2.5 million for an endowment, which would provide an estimated $100,000 per year for grants to area fire departments.
