HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. — A volunteer firefighter died of injuries sustained in a fire truck crash Tuesday.

CourierAnywhere.com reported that the head-on collision of a loaded log truck and a Hardin County Fire Department tanker claimed the life of the truck driver and firefighter Gus Losleben.

Firefighter Losleben, a four-year fire service veteran, was driving the tanker to a fully involved house fire. He was heading toward the two-story home when he collided head-on with the log truck.

He was airlifted to a hospital after being extricated from the rig. He was initially listed in critical condition, but later died from his injuries, according to the report.

The driver of the log truck was killed instantly. Officials are unsure what caused the crash and it is currently under investigation.

The fire to which Losleben was responding destroyed the structure.
