Whenever an SCBA is checked in, it goes through an inspection process to verify its working condition. This inspection only takes five minutes.
There are some small components that tend to be forgotten about. One item is the RIT UIC valve on the back of the pack. This device is tucked away and is not always visible during checks. This is a small part, but vital part. It is a lifeline connection for the firefighter. It needs to be clear of any debris, not damaged and in good working condition.
