MUKWONAGO, Wis. — A Waukesha County teen is being hailed as a hero after saving a boy’s life while on spring break in Florida.
"(I) dove in, scooped him up in my arms and put him on the asphalt,” Alec Taczala said. They were scary moments for most, but Taczala wasn’t going to let a 6-year-old boy drown at a hotel pool. "(I) felt for a pulse. There was no pulse, so that’s when I thought I have to start CPR on this kid,” Taczala said.
The Mukwonago senior’s instincts kicked in. He stayed calm and got help. The child was revived. Taczala said he knew what to do because for the last four years he’s been working with the Milwaukee Fire Department at the Junior Fire Institute.
