ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A firefighter received recognition Saturday after he saved the life of a 3-year-old baby girl while on vacation.
KRQE reported that firefighter Eddie Torres said he heard a young mother yelling for help while he was relaxing in a hotel pool. He sprung into action and immediately started resuscitation on the unresponsive child, according to the report.
He was able to clear her airways and was welcomed by thankful parents.
“The family was very thankful. They couldn’t stop hugging or kissing me,” said Torres.
With a handshake and a few words from his fire chief Saturday, firefighter Torres said he was happy he was at the right place at the right time, according to the report.
