HOBOKEN, N.J. — After serving as acting fire chief for two years, Richard Blohm will be officially sworn in as the Mile Square City’s ninth fire chief at a public ceremony Monday.
Blohm has been serving as acting chief since the retirement of John Cassesa in 2007. The appointment of Blohm was authorized earlier this month by the state Department of Community Affairs, since a DCA-appointed state monitor is now supervising Hoboken’s hiring and promotions.
Blohm’s salary as chief is not to exceed $157,000 per year, according to a city spokesman.
Blohm joined the Hoboken Fire Department in 1977 and was promoted to deputy chief in 1992. Blohm has served as a tour commander, special operations officer, chief of the Hazmat Unit and chief of training. He has also been appointed by the past three governors as a fire commissioner for the state Fire Safety Commission.
Blohm is a Hoboken native, but he now resides in Paramus.
The swearing-in will take place at 4:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
