BRAYTON, Texas — A team of a dozen firefighters advanced on a stream of gasoline that fed several feet of bright orange flame as the fuel leaked from several places within a large network of pipes at the Texas Engineering Extension Service.
Although the blaze was controlled by a man in a booth outside of the structure, the firefighters worked together to tackle the flames, as if the scenario was not contrived.
With two hand-held hoses, one portable monitor and a couple of stationary water sources pumping water that would easily knock a person to the ground, the firefighters applied their training to look after themselves and others so that the fire could be tamed. The training scenario was part of TEEX’s annual industrial fire school, being conducted this week at Brayton Fire Training Field for firefighters who work in industrial plants and factories.
