PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. — More than two dozen area volunteer fire departments are set to get a gift that would allow them to buy new equipment.
Hundreds of people turned out in Prophetstown Saturday to raise money for those fire departments, after all of them helped put out a devastating downtown fire there this summer. And, this isn’t the first time the community has come together like this since the fire. Right after the fire in July, the community started the Fire Victims’ fund. Then, a couple weeks ago we told you how more and more donations are rolling in from the community for the Rebuilding fund.
Now, the community is working to raise money to help the firefighters who helped them. The fundraiser’s organizers say all the money raised at this weekend’s event will go to the Prophetstown volunteer fire chief. Then, he’ll split the money among the other volunteer departments who responded to the fire.
