PITTSBURGH — In today’s fast paced and ever changing world of technology – what’s “hot” today is often obsolete tomorrow. But that’s not the case with MSA‘s (NYSE: MSA) revolutionary G1 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for firefighters, which is built on a versatile and upgradeable technology platform.

Recently, that versatility enabled MSA to develop a new thermal imaging camera (TIC) that is actually part of the SCBA itself. Introduced as a concept just one year ago, MSA’s integrated TIC has since been submitted for regulatory approval and is now available for pre-order. An industry first, the G1 Integrated TIC now makes the concept of personal thermal imaging a reality.

“The G1 SCBA was developed with the promise of providing firefighters with the latest technology to help protect them when lives are on the line. The new TIC option demonstrates that vision and the level of progression made possible with the G1 platform,” said Jason Traynor, Global Product Business Director for Respiratory Protection and Fire Helmets. “The G1 platform gives us the ability to keep pace with the rate of technological advancement – whether those advancements occur today or tomorrow.”

Integrating TIC technology directly into the SCBA provides multiple advantages, such as an auto-on feature that activates the TIC once the SCBA is pressurized. Additionally, the TIC is driven by the G1’s single integrated rechargeable power source, so users don’t have to manage additional batteries.

Compatible with any G1 SCBA via factory installation or a simple field upgrade, the G1 Integrated TIC is patent-pending and takes advantage of the only full-color display control module available on the market today.

The G1 Integrated TIC will be on display and available to demo at Fire-Rescue International Expo, August 19-20, in San Antonio Texas. MSA booth number #33097.
