Jones and Bartlett Acquires Professional Publishing Programs in Fire and Electrical

January 30, 2006, Sudbury, MA – Jones and Bartlett Publishers, Inc. (J&B) announced today the acquisition of a large portion of the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) professional reference and textbook publishing program. Included in the acquisition are approximately 100 NFPA fire service and electrical titles, including Building Construction for the Fire Service, by Francis L. Brannigan, and the bestselling Stallcup Electrical Series. The NFPA will continue to publish codes, standards, and related handbooks. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

In April 2002, J&B entered into a publishing partnership with the NFPA to publish training materials based on NFPA standards. Together, J&B and the NFPA have developed and published a line of innovative, high-quality training materials for the fire service. This acquisition will expand the existing publishing partnership, enhance J&B’s fire service list, and launch a new electrical technology list for J&B.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the results of our four year partnership with the NFPA and this acquisition further enhances that winning relationship,” said Clayton Jones, CEO of J&B. “We are very excited to have the opportunity to work even closer with the NFPA to expand our offerings in fire training and to apply our experience and innovative publishing strategies to the electrical field.”

Included in the new electrical technology list is the Stallcup Series based on the National Electrical Code® (NEC). The Stallcup Series, authored by NEC expert and trainer James G. Stallcup, provides 30-plus years of industry experience to help readers develop solid electrical skills. J&B will expand the Stallcup Series to publish state-of-the-art training materials for students studying to become electricians.

“In less than four years, Jones and Bartlett has transformed the standard for educational materials for the fire service,” said William Gibson, Group Publisher at the NFPA. “We know they will bring the same innovation and expertise to these fire and electrical titles.”
