NVFC Awards Nomination Period Now Open

Submit Your Nomination for the NVFC’s Annual Awards

Recognize achievement in your department or community by submitting nominations for the National Volunteer Fire Council’s (NVFC) annual awards. Each spring, the NVFC honors a firefighter who has provided a lifetime of service, a volunteer whose accomplishments embody the philosophy of fire prevention, an outstanding junior firefighter, and an exemplary junior firefighter program. The nomination period for the NVFC awards is now open through 5pm EST on February 3, 2015.

“Every year there are volunteers from around the country that are making significant contributions to their department, their community, and the overall fire service above and beyond what is typically expected,” said NVFC Chairman Philip C. Stittleburg. “These outstanding individuals leave a lasting impact and serve as inspiration for others. They deserve to be recognized for their achievements, and I strongly encourage departments and community members who know of an outstanding volunteer firefighter, fire prevention volunteer, junior firefighter, or junior firefighter program to nominate them for the NVFC awards.”

Recipients of the NVFC awards will receive a trip for themselves and a guest to attend a special awards banquet on April 17, 2015, in Alexandria, VA, just outside of Washington, DC. In addition, all recipients receive a personalized award and national recognition. Learn more and submit your nominations at www.nvfc.org/awards.

The NVFC Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Rosenbauer, recognizes a volunteer firefighter who has served at least 20 years and has made a major contribution or achieved significant accomplishments in the volunteer fire service at the local, state, and/or national level. The nominee must have demonstrated superior dedication to the volunteer fire service, been active in their state firefighters’ association, and have positively impacted the community through the fire service or other volunteer activities.

The NVFC Fire Prevention Award, sponsored by First Alert, honors an individual who has made remarkable efforts in the area of fire prevention. New this year, recipients may be volunteer firefighters or non-operational volunteers (such as Fire Corps members). The award was established in the memory of volunteer firefighter and NVFC board member Marc Mueller, who energetically promoted the causes of volunteers and supported all efforts to elevate the volunteer fire and emergency services to their highest level. Nominees must have made a major contribution or played a key role in a significant accomplishment in the field of fire prevention, demonstrated innovation in establishing and enacting goals and/or obtaining funding for the protection of the public through fire prevention and life safety programs, and have demonstrated success in the area of fire prevention.

The Junior Firefighter of the Year Award, sponsored by Tyco, honors a junior firefighter, cadet, or Explorer who has shown extraordinary dedication, commitment, and achievements as a youth member of the fire service. Nominees must have been a junior firefighter for at least one year and have gone above and beyond in their participation at the station. In addition to the award benefits listed above, the recipient will receive a $500 scholarship and a trip for themselves and up to two parents/guardians to the awards banquet.

The Junior Firefighter Program of the Year Award, sponsored by Tyco, recognizes a department that has an outstanding junior firefighter program. The program must have been in operation for at least one year, and departments must demonstrate creativity and community impact for the program.

Nominations for all four awards are due by 5pm EST on February 3, 2015. Submit your nomination today at www.nvfc.org/awards. Click here to learn more about last year’s recipients.
