If your response area has an elevator, there is a good chance that you will be called for a person or persons trapped. The apparatus should have an elevator rescue kit with items to help with opening the doors and hopefully removing the occupants.
One important item is a set of wooden wedges. These help keep the elevator door open so that direct access to the inside of the elevator can be maintained at all times. This alleviates the need for a firefighter to hold the door the entire time.
Another important item is a set of elevator keys. These will help open the door from the outside. The type of door and the mechanism provided to open the door (key hole), will dictate the type of elevator keys needed.
