CASS CO., Ind. — A Cass County man had to be rescued from a tree in front of his house because of swiftly rising waters Friday evening.
It all happened just south of Georgetown, right at the Cass-Carroll County line, about 10 miles west of Logansport.
Firefighters said neighbors heard the man yelling after he climbed a tree because of quickly rising waters of the Wabash River. The waters quickly rose after ice jam near Georgetown broke about 5:30 p.m., which was itself broken by the ice jam in Logansport, which broke upstream about an hour earlier. Firefighters had to walk a boat out across the water to the man to rescue him.
