SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah — A wildfire burned 98 acres Sunday afternoon and came within two miles of an explosives plant.

No homes or other structures were burned or even threatened by the blaze, which burned mostly on state and private property, said Utah Division of Forestry spokesman Dave Vickers.

The fire began about 2:30 p.m. and was extinguished within a couple of hours. Two air tankers and a helicopter were used.

Vickers said there was no lightning in the area and the fire is believed to have been caused by humans. It is possible someone shooting a gun in the area may have unintentionally caused the fire, he said.

The fire was located on the west side of Utah Lake near Lake Mountain, west of U-68 at milepost 22 and south of Saratoga Springs.
