OCEANSIDE, N.Y. — A firefighter with the Oceanside Fire Department died Saturday after suffering an apparent heart attack.

Keith Lane, 53, responded to a motor vehicle crash Saturday. Later that night, Lane’s daughter called 911, stating that he was on the floor of his home and unresponsive, reported USFA. An ambulance responded to the scene, and first responders determined that Lane had died several hours before being found.

Lane served the department for 23 years. Prior to working at Oceanside Fire Department, Lane worked at the East Rockaway Fire Department for 10 years.

“He did more behind the scenes to help promote the volunteer fire service and he always did so without looking for any credit and that’s really who Keith was,” Oceanside Fire Chief JT Madden told LIHerald.com. “He was ready to help anyone and he led an amazing life, which ended way too early. He will be missed.”

Lane is survived by his sister and daughter, who will both sit Shiva from Tuesday to Thursday.
