BURDETT, N.Y. — The Burdett Volunteer Fire Department is mourning the loss of Firefighter Dale Jaynes, who died two weeks after suffering a medical emergency while on duty Sept. 16.
According to FireFighterCloseCalls.com, Jaynes was also the Deputy Fire Coordinator for Schuyler County.
In a Facebook post, the BVFD shared a touching tribute to Jaynes from Firefighter Tom Strong:
As I sit here reading posts on Facebook
I don’t know what to say
My thoughts, prayers and condolences
Goes out to the Burdett community today
They say a community
Is only as strong as the people in it
With Dale Jaynes
This community never quit
He was more than a fireman
Name tags were many without a doubt
If I wrote down what he did
Before I finished my ink would run out
I always seen him with a smile
No matter where in town
He was quick with a wise remark
It would turn your day around
From his wife to the men in the fire department
He helped them out the best he could
They all respected and looked up to him
Like he was The Godfather of the Burdetthood
So let’s bow our heads
And pray
And say thank you Dale
For what you did everyday
