NEW YORK — A pair of workers were rescued after a scaffolding malfunction left them stranded outside the 21st story of a downtown Manhattan building Monday, authorities said.

Firefighters pulled the two men through a window soon after the workers were reported dangling off the side of the Broadway building near City Hallabout 1:10 p.m., authorities said.

The workers were not hurt during the ordeal. “They were fine. They were just stuck,” said FDNY First Division Deputy Chief Dan Donoghue. The team of smoke-eaters pulled the workers into the building one at a time after cutting holes in two windows, Donoghue said.
