Pa. fire police officer struck at crash scene

The officer was directing traffic around a crash scene when he was struck by another vehicle

WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Whitehall Township fire police officer was injured Monday evening when he was hit by a vehicle as he directed traffic around the scene of an earlier traffic accident, authorities said.

The fire police officer, who was not immediately identified, was at MacArthur Road and Center Street about 6:15 p.m. when he was hit. Five vehicles were involved in the collision he had responded to, witnesses said.

The Lehigh County 911 center said the officer was taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. No information was available on his condition.

Whitehall Township police were investigating the accidents, which happened in the center of the intersection.
