Avoid supply-line kinks

Tips

By Mark van der Feyst

Kinks are common in large-diameter supply hose when it’s deployed from the hydrant to the fire apparatus intake. One way to alleviate the kinks is to make a big “O” with the supply line between the hydrant and the pump intake.

When the hydrant is opened fully, the pressure will cause the hose to be pushed out uniformly making a smooth circle with no kinks. This pattern can also help to cut down the distance the hose has to be flaked out when space is restricted by overlapping the hose on itself.
