Always assume the worst when responding to a vehicle crash or hazardous materials incident involving an intermodal container. Intermodal containers are designed to carry and transport anything around the world and will contain materials or products that are dangerous.
Although we have a system in place requiring these containers are placarded to identify what is on board, they sometimes are improperly placarded or not at all. When encountering a container such as this, use the Emergency Response Guidebook to help you deal with the container.
