SACKETS HARBOR, N.Y. — It’s been two years since volunteer firefighter Garrett Loomis was killed while fighting a silo fire in Sackets Harbor.
Fire crews from across the region attended a safety session Saturday, named in Loomis’ honor, to help make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Loomis died while battling a blaze in what is called an “oxygen-limiting silo”, which can explode during a fire when air and water are allowed in.
