BASTROP COUNTY, Texas — It was homecoming day Wednesday for a Bastrop County firefighter and her family, who were built a new home by a reality television show and thousands of local volunteers.
By 6 p.m., Mizzy and Chris Zdroj and their children arrived by limousine to see their brand-new 2,500-square-foot house, the building of which was organized for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the Austin American-Statesmen reported.
Mizzy Zdroj, a firefighter with the Heart of the Pines Volunteer Fire Department, was fighting the wildfires that began Labor Day weekend when her home burned down.
EFC Custom Homes of Bastrop donated the $250,000 house.
“It took a lot of businesses to make this happen,” said Eric Christophe, president of the homebuilder.
The home was built in seven days by 3,000 volunteers. The family moved in on Thursday.
