CHICO, Calif. — Chico’s budget deficit has led to cutting overtime for police and fire departments, and the temporary closure of Fire Station Five. Today, several dozen Chico residents gathered at station five protesting the closure. But also, firefighters were out on the front lines themselves.
It’s not just the residents in communities on the east side of Chico who are concerned about losing their protection with the closure of Fire Station Rive on Manzanita Avenue, the firefighters are now fighting for their lifeline.
“We are seeking widespread community support in response to the recent closure of fire station five,” said Chico firefighter Zach Plotell.
