Firefighter’s son struck by boat propeller after fall into lake

Three-year-old Aiden McKitrick is expected to survive his injuries, but he’ll have a “lifetime of challenges”

DALLAS, Texas — A 3-year-old boy was struck by a boat propeller and was in critical condition Thursday night after he fell into Lake Ray Hubbard, officials say.

The toddler was playing near the gate of a pontoon boat when he fell overboard, KTVT-TV reported. He was identified as Aiden McKitrick on the Facebook page of the Rockwall Professional Firefighters Association.

The child’s father, who the association identified as Lewisville firefighter Austin McKitrick, pulled him out of the water near the Rush Creek Yacht Club and called 911 He was taken to Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

A GoFundMe account has been established to help the family with medical expenses. “Aiden’s dad risks his life daily as a firefighter,” said a posting on the account page by Lewisville Firefighters Association Local 3606. “His mother spends her days helping others as a nurse and it’s our turn to help them.”
