WICHITA, Kan. — Firefighters in Kansas have evacuated the area around a grain elevator in Wichita because a fire has raised the threat of an explosion.
Officials say workers at the Horizon Mill elevators on the grounds of a Cargill Inc. plant reported the fire Tuesday morning.
About 40 firefighters battled the blaze.
Emergency responders evacuated 110 employees from the business and blocked off surrounding streets as a precaution in case airborne grain dust should explode.
Firefighters believed the fire was under control but they used unmanned systems to spray water on the blaze because of the threat of explosion.
