Boston Fire sends mental health pros to Orlando

The department’s certified peer counselors will provide counseling for firefighters who responded to the shooting

BOSTON — The Boston Fire Department sent support councilors to work with firefighters in Orlando in the wake of the Sunday shooting that left 50 dead and more injured.

The department received a request for assistance via the International Association of Fire Fighters, and will provide emotional counseling and support for those involved in responding to the shooting. Two of Boston’s certified Peer Support Firefighter Counselors left Monday for Orlando, reported CBS.

“They left this morning and will be going to work later today,” Boston Fire said via Twitter. “Their mission is to listen to and talk with the firefighters who responded and provide help and guidance if asked.”
