HARTSELLE, Ala. — A volunteer firefighter and father of three sons died Monday after becoming sick while on a call assisting the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office with an explosion.
Dale Scott Queen, 37, of Hartselle, who was a member of Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, was taken to Decatur Morgan Hospital after he began to feel ill while searching for potential explosives in the woods on Ironman Road near Alabama 36. He died a few hours later.
His cause of death is unknown, although it was not related to the search for explosives, said Oak Ridge Fire Chief Stephen Maples. No bomb was found and Morgan County officials are still investigating what caused the explosion. Maples said he is awaiting autopsy results on Queen.
