SALT LAKE CITY, Wyo. — The 13-year-old son of a Wyoming fire chief is requesting memorabilia from fire departments to decorate his hospital room as he awaits a heart transplant.
Bryson Quinney, who has a congenital condition called hypoplastic left heart syndrome, has already been sent several shirts, hats and patches from fire departments across the country, according to KSL.
Bryson’s father, Uinta County Fire and Ambulance Chief Administration Officer Eric Quinney, who is also a board member for the National Volunteer Fire Council, says his son hopes to receive a new heart so he can grow up to be a firefighter himself.
The family said departments can send items for the collection to the Care of Forever Young Room at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Wyoming, and have also set up a GoFundMe page to help with travel expenses related to Bryson’s treatment.
Bryson was named an honorary firefighter by the Bridger Valley Fire Department, according to the GoFundMe page.
