HOUSTON — Two Houston firefighters were injured during a fire at an apartment complex on Monday, one of whom became pinned between a fire engine and a district chief’s SUV at the scene.

Officials said the firefighter who was pinned had gone to the back of the SUV to retrieve his air pack when the engine began to move, according to KPRC. Firefighters who heard a call for help ran to push the SUV forward as the engine continued to move.

Assistant Chief Michael Mire told KPRC that the parking brake on the engine may not have been engaged, or there was some sort of system failure in the apparatus. Mire said the incident will be looked into by officials.

The other firefighter sent to the hospital suffered smoke inhalation during the three-alarm blaze. Additionally, there were two mayday calls when crews became separated while fighting the fire.
