HEPBURN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A firefighter who was critically injured yesterday when she was hit by a truck while battling a field blaze is recovering.

WNEP reported that the 62-year-old firefighter, who asked not to be named, is doing well after a brush truck she was standing behind backed up and struck her.

“The firefighter gets out of the vehicle. I don’t really have all of the details, but ended up getting run over by the vehicle that she was in,” Trout Run Fire Chief Bob Whitford said. “This is a person who is there with you, helping on those calls, and now, they are the person you are there taking care of.”

Police said the fire crew was dousing a field fire when a firefighter backed the brush truck up and did not see the victim standing behind it.

The firefighter’s husband said her lower body is injured, but she is OK and hopes to return to firefighting once she recovers.

The incident was ruled an accident by officials.
