VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The red truck is the iconic symbol of fire fighting everywhere, but starting Thursday eight Vancouver fire prevention officers will pedal as they perform their duties.
Jonathan Gormick, public relations officer with Vancouver Fire and Rescue, says the bike initiative makes sense on many fronts. “There’s an increased ability to do work, an increased ability to access premises for inspections. And honestly, it will also better contribute to the health and wellness of our staff.”
Gormick says the idea was initially conceived by two officers in the fire prevention squad and aligns with Vancouver’s Greenest City 2020 Action Plan.
