CHICAGO — Mayor Rahm Emanuel showed his hand before Chicago firefighters’ contract expires next month, and the union calls the proposal insulting.
Fire station closures aren’t part of Emanuel’s cost-saving plan, but the proposal takes aim at several firefighter perks. The union said it plans to fight back before the current contract expires June 30.
Cost-cutting measures include cutting firefighter paychecks an average of $7,000 a year.
