Fla. firefighters try to save 9 jobs

Collier Professional Firefighters and Paramedics union offers voluntary pay, benefit cuts to save jobs to be eliminated Sunday

EAST NAPLES, Fla. — East Naples firefighters have offered voluntary pay and benefit cuts in an effort to save the jobs of nine firefighters slated to be eliminated Sunday.

The Collier Professional Firefighters and Paramedics union, which represents East Naples and Golden Gate firefighters, sent a memo to fire officials agreeing to cuts that they say will save the district enough money to keep current employees on staff.

“Our first priority is keeping those nines guys on the job,” said Chris Tobin, president of the firefighters union.
